VINTON, Va. (WFXR) — Vinton announced that it will be under a flood watch today until Saturday afternoon.

According to the Town of Vinton, the flood watch will take into effect this evening from 2 p.m. until noon on Saturday, Sept. 30.

Vinton is warning residents to be cautious of flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall. They say the excess runoff may result in flooding rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.

The Town of Vinton says the remnants of “Tropical Cyclone Ian” are expected to bring widespread two to four inches of rain through Saturday early afternoon.

They say higher amounts up to six inches are possible in areas along the Blue Ridge and any areas where bands of rain remain situated for extended periods of time.

A wind advisory is also in effect in Vinton from 10 a.m. this morning until Saturday at noon as well.
