The right lane and right shoulder are still closed near mile marker 195 on the northbound side.

According to VDOT, backups are approximately 6.5 miles behind the incident at mile marker 195.
Drivers can still expect significant backlogs as cleanup efforts continue.
UPDATE 9:20 p.m.: After one lane of travel reopens on I-81 north in Rockbridge County, significant backlogs remain.
This is all due to a vehicle fire that previously shut down all northbound lanes at mile marker 195, north of Lexington.
The northbound right lane and right shoulder are still closed.
The previously-instituted detour has been eliminated, but backups of approximately six miles behind the incident still remain.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – A vehicle fire is causing significant issues for traffic on I-81, north of the I-64 split in Rockbridge County.
VDOT says the incident is at miler marker 194 where all northbound lanes of I-81 are closed.
Traffic is being detoured off I-81 at onto I-64 west at exit 191. Traffic will then move off I-64 at mile marker 55 and will travel north on Route 11 and return to I-81 north at exit 195.
Drivers should use caution and expect significant delays as backups are reported to be approximately five miles.
