UPDATE 8:40 p.m.: An earlier crash on I-81 involving multiple vehicles is clear. Traffic continues to move slow in this area due to construction activities, so minor delays can still be expected.
UPDATE 7:45 p.m.: An earlier vehicle fire has been cleared on I-81 south in Roanoke County; however, a new multi-vehicle crash before the earlier fire is creating big problems for commuters.
According to VDOT, the multi-vehicle crash is located at mile marker 142.5.
The southbound left lane, right lane and right shoulder are all closed. Traffic is getting by on the left shoulder.
Backups are reportedly to be around two miles.
ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – A vehicle fire along I-81 southbound in Roanoke County has created significant backlogs for drivers.
According to VDOT, the vehicle fire is located at mile marker 139.
They say the south right lane and right shoulder are closed.
Backups are reportedly around three miles.
Drivers are urged to find another route around this incident.
