SALEM, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is monitoring the conditions and treating roads in anticipation of more wintery weather throughout Friday night and into the weekend.

Depending on weather conditions, VDOT will be able to apply brine to some major roads ahead of the weekend weather event.

VDOT also wants to warn drivers that low temperatures could create slick roads and they should be on the lookout for refreezing. Since Sunday, Jan. 16, crews have been busy working around the clock plowing roads, treating icy spots, removing down trees, and keeping drifting snow off the roads.
