UPDATE: One dead, one charged after vehicle crashes into northeast Roanoke building

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Police say one person is dead and one person was arrested after a vehicle crashed into a northeast Roanoke building Saturday evening.

According to the Roanoke Police Department, word came in at approximately 5:15 p.m. on Saturday, April 10 about a vehicle crash with injuries in the 1600 block of Wayne Street NE.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man with what appeared to be serious injuries. First responders brought the man to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, which is where the department says he later died from his injuries.

Police say they will not share the victim’s identity until they notify his next of kin.

Meanwhile, according to officials, the preliminary investigation indicates the vehicle’s driver crashed into a building, hitting the victim in the process.

Authorities say the driver — identified as 46-year-old Timothy Cotton of Roanoke — was found near the scene before he was arrested and charged with manslaughter.

This fatality investigation is reportedly ongoing.
