VINTON, Va. (WFXR) — Police announced Wednesday morning that Monday night’s shooting at the McDonald’s along Hardy Road in Vinton is now being investigated as a homicide due to the death of the victim.

According to the Vinton Police Department, officers responded to a report of a malicious wounding at approximately 9:39 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 11 at 809 Hardy Road.

When police arrived at the scene, they say they found a man inside the McDonald’s with an apparent gunshot wound. That man was then brought to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The department says the investigation indicates the shooting took place in the McDonald’s parking lot. However, the suspected vehicle — a silver sedan — drove away before officers arrived at the scene.

On Wednesday, Oct. 13, police announced that the shooting victim — identified as 38-year-old Gary McMiller of Vinton — died from his injury.

As of this writing, authorities say they have not made any arrests in connection with this homicide investigation. However, Vinton detectives have been in contact with the Roanoke County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.

If you have any information about Monday’s fatal shooting, you are asked to call the Vinton Police Department at 540-283-7034.
