UPDATE 2:40 p.m.: Police have provided new details about Monday morning’s shooting in northwest Roanoke that sent two men to the hospital.

The Roanoke Police Department says officers were patrolling the area near Salem Turnpike NW and 24th Street NW at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Monday when they heard what sounded like shots fired from Delta Drive NW.

As police responded to the scene, they learned there was a person who had been shot in the 2400 block of Delta Drive NW, leading to the discovery of two injured men outside of a home in the area. First responders brought the men to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital to be treated for what appeared to be non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

The department says its iSTAR Team and officers used evidence at the scene and video surveillance to determine the suspect’s vehicle and direction, which was shared with patrol units in the area.

An officer reportedly found the vehicle at a home in the 1100 block of Pilot Street NW. Additional units responded to that address, found the suspect inside the vehicle, and took him into custody without incident.

According to authorities, the suspect — identified as 22-year-old Mann D. Murray of Roanoke — was charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

“We commend the swift actions of Charlie Platoon and the iSTAR Team. Without their immediate intervention, the suspect would have been much harder to locate and ultimately charge,” said the Roanoke Police Department.

Police say the investigation is still ongoing.
