FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Two Franklin County residents are dead after multiple 911 calls came in Thursday evening — including a woman saying she killed someone and a man saying his wife shot herself — from the same street in Union Hall.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call came in shortly before 5 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3, from a woman on Piney Point Road in Union Hall. The woman reportedly stated she had just killed someone before hanging up the phone.

A few minutes later, authorities say another call came into the 911 center from a man saying his wife had just shot herself, also on Piney Point Road.

However, while deputies were in route, the sheriff’s office says another another 911 call was received from a motorist on Piney Point Road saying they found a male subject who appeared to be dead on the edge of the road.

When deputies arrived in the area, they found two victims, both at separate locations.

According to authorities, a dead man was located near the road while a woman with life-threatening injuries was at her residence a few hundred yards away. Even though first responders tried rescue efforts at the scene, the sheriff’s office says the woman died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

According to a news release from the sheriff’s office on Friday, Dec. 4, the victim is a 65-year-old man from Union Hall, and the suspect is identified as 65-year-old Elizabeth Schoppert, also of Union Hall.

Authorities say the victim’s name is not being released at this time at the request of the family.

Officials say they are waiting for more information from the Medical Examiner’s Office about the official cause of death in this ongoing investigation.
