FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Two Franklin County men are dead after authorities were called out to reports of a shooting that involved two relatives in Rocky Mount Saturday evening.

According to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, a 911 call came in at approximately 5:38 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30 about a shooting in the 300 block of Countryside Lane in Rocky Mount.

The sheriff’s office says the caller reported that one family member had shot another family member.

Members of the sheriff’s office and Franklin County Public Safety responded to the scene and found two men outside the home, both of whom had apparent gunshot wounds, officials say.

Authorities tell WFXR News that 54-year-old David Ray Wyatt of Rocky Mount, was pronounced dead at the scene from what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The other man — identified by the sheriff’s office as 65-year-old Terry Allen Hurline of Rocky Mount — sustained life-threatening injuries and was brought to a hospital, where he later died.

While officials say this shooting is still under investigation, they believed it was an isolated incident that does not pose a threat to the public.
