UPDATE 10:28 a.m.: Virginia State Police released the names of the two people who died in Thursday evening’s multi-vehicle crash, as well as more details about what led up to the incident.
Police tell WFXR News a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze was crossing Route 220 at the Fork Mountain Road intersection and failed to yield the right of way. Then, a 2007 Freightliner tractor-trailer, which was heading north on Route 220, hit the Cruze.
Authorities identified the driver and the passenger of the Chevrolet as 90-year-old Wallace Lester Gusler and 86-year-old Ruby Zelma Gusler, respectively. The two occupants, both from Collinsville, were wearing their seatbelts at the time, but they died at the scene of the collision.
According to officials, no charges are pending in connection with this deadly crash, which is still under investigation.
FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — State troopers spent Thursday evening working the scene of a crash involving a tractor-trailer and a passenger vehicle that left two people dead in Franklin County.
According to Virginia State Police, the crash took place just before 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, April 21 on Route 220 at Fork Mountain Road.
Authorities announced shortly after 8 p.m. that the road had been cleared.
As of this writing, police have yet to share the identities of the two people who died or the cause of the crash.
