UPDATE: Backups from earlier tractor-trailer crash on I-81 south in Rockbridge County cleared

UPDATE 11:45 p.m.: Earlier backups from a tractor-trailer crash in Rockbridge County along a stretch of I-81 south have cleared.

VDOT traffic cameras show that traffic is moving normally around this area.

UPDATE 11:00 a.m.: VDOT continues to report a tractor-trailer crash along I-81 south in Rockbridge County at mile marker 196.7 that’s creating big backlogs for drivers.

According to VDOT, backups are approximately five miles behind the crash which is blocking the left shoulder, left lane and right shoulder.

Drivers should continue to find another route around this crash to avoid the congestion.

ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – A tractor-trailer crash is creating congestion on a stretch of I-81 in Rockbridge County.

According to VDOT, the crash is located on the southbound lanes at mile marker 196.7.

VDOT says the left shoulder and left lane are closed.

Backups are reported to be nearly two miles in this area.

Drivers should find another route or risk getting caught in this backup.
