UPDATE: All lanes of I-81 south in Botetourt County reopen after earlier tractor-trailer crash is cleared

UPDATE 10:00 a.m.: VDOT cameras show that traffic is moving normally around the 158 mile marker of I-81 south as the earlier tractor-trailer crash has been cleared.


UPDATE 9:20 a.m.: All lanes of traffic on I-81 south in Botetourt County have reopened after an earlier tractor-trailer crash.

Backups are reducing, but drivers can still expect significant delays if traveling in this area. as traffic continues to thin out.


UPDATE 9:05 a.m.: Traffic backups continue behind a tractor-trailer crash on I-81 south in Botetourt County.

VDOT says traffic is now backed up approximately five miles.

Traffic has started passing the crash along the right shoulder; however, significant delays can still be expected if traveling in this area.


UPDATE 8:50 a.m.: VDOT says traffic is getting by the crash using the right shoulder at mile marker 158 but backups continue to be reported to be approximately four miles.


BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – A tractor-trailer crash on I-81 south in Botetourt County is causing a several-mile backup for drivers.

According to VDOT, the crash is located at mile marker 158.3.

They say the left shoulder, left lane and right lane are all shut down.

Backups are reported to be approximately four miles.

Drivers should find another route or risk significant delays if traveling in this area.
