ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — If you plan on driving along I-581 in Roanoke City Thursday morning, you may run into some backups because of bridge work taking place along a southbound stretch of the highway.

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) says the southbound left shoulder, left lane, and center lane are closed from mile marker 1 to mile marker 0 on I-581.

According to VDOT, these closure will remain in effect until 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 4.

While VDOT has not announced the extent of the delays from the bridge work at this time, the VDOT traffic map shows significantly lowered traffic speeds along I-581 South all the way from the Plantation Road NE intersection to the 10th Street NW intersection.
