ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — An investigation is underway in Roanoke after three people were hospitalized with gunshot wounds early Sunday morning, which police believe may be connected.

According to the Roanoke Police Department, police were first notified at 3:15 a.m. on Sunday, May 1 about a person with a gunshot wound in the 600 block of Westside Boulevard NW.

Responding officers say they found a large group of people in the area before they discovered a man with what appeared to be a non-life threatening gunshot wound, who was then brought to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital by Roanoke Fire-EMS.

While police were on scene at Westside Boulevard, the department says they were notified that another man with what appeared to be a non-life-threatening gunshot wound had arrived via personal transport at LewisGale Hospital. The investigation indicated that this victim was also injured at the Westside scene.

Then, approximately 4:15 a.m., authorities say word came in about a person with a gunshot wound in the 1300 block of Melrose Avenue NW.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found a man with what appeared to be a non-life threatening gunshot wound inside a vehicle in the area. First responders took the man to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment, according to officials.

The department tells WFXR News that the investigation indicates there is a connection between the victim found on Melrose Avenue and the shooting scene on Westside Boulevard.
