State Police identify Franklin County teen who died in Wednesday evening crash

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Police say a teenage boy is dead after crashing into some trees in Franklin County Wednesday evening.

The single-vehicle crash occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 17 along Sontag Road, about a mile west of Mount Carmel Road, according to Virginia State Police.

A 2002 Ford Taurus was reportedly heading east on Sontag Road when it ran off the right side of the road, overcorrected, crossed the roadway, and hit several trees.

Authorities identified the Ford’s driver as 19-year-old Devin Xzavier Brandon from Rocky Mount. Brandon was not wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene of the wreck.

As of this writing, officials are still investigating this fatal crash.
