ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke Police Department is reporting a stabbing that occurred on Feb. 4 in Roanoke.

Around 9:30 pm on Saturday, reports were received of an assault that took place on the 2500 block of Melrose Avenue NW. On the scene, officers found two men who appeared to have been involved in a physical dispute.

One of the men was located near a vehicle with what appeared to be a non-life-threatening stab wound. Roanoke Fire-EMS transported him to a local hospital for treatment.

The second man was treated at the scene but denied transportation to the hospital.

Investigators believe the incident started as a verbal altercation that escalated into a physical fight, resulting in the stabbing. Both men allegedly know one another, and all parties involved in the incident have been identified.

Roanoke police say this is an ongoing investigation. WFXR will update you with any new information as it is released.
