Speed, alcohol believed to be factors in fatal Franklin County crash, State Police say

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Virginia State Police are investigating after a man died in a single-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Franklin County.

According to police, the crash occurred at approximately 4:19 p.m. on Friday, April 16 along English Road, half a mile south of Sandstone Lane.

Authorities say a 1990 Ford Econoline was traveling north when the vehicle lost control, ran off the left side of the road, and hit a tree.

The driver of the Ford — identified by Virginia State Police as 52-year-old Jay Linwood Tyree Hodges of Rocky Mount — was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene of the crash.

Police say they believe speed and alcohol are factors in the crash.

The crash is reportedly still under investigation
