ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Roanoke County is getting a new shoe store this year as the Tanglewood Mall adds another retailer to its growing list of tenants.

On Tuesday, April 26, Roanoke County and Blackwater Resources, LLC announced the arrival of Skechers USA, Inc., at Tanglewood, the 800,000-square-foot mixed-use center that sits at the so-called gateway to the county.

Officials say Skechers will occupy a portion of the former Stein Mart space and will be co-located with Burlington. With interior redevelopment is currently underway, the store is expected to open in early autumn.

“We are excited to welcome Skechers to Tanglewood as a part of the ongoing redevelopment of the property,” said John Abernathy, president of Blackwater Resources. “They are a great retailer that I know the community will enthusiastically embrace.”

According to Tuesday’s statement, Skechers USA, Inc. is a footwear company headquartered in California that features lifestyle and athletic brands for men, women, and children. Since the brand was founded in 1992, it has grown to become the third largest athletic footwear brand in America.

“Skechers is a well-known consumer brand that adds to the diversity of retail experiences in the 419 Town Center and continues the growth momentum at Tanglewood,” said Jill Loope, director of economic development for Roanoke County. “A total of seven new restaurants and four new retail and service businesses have been announced at the property to date. We remain optimistic about future business opportunities and continued growth along the 419 corridor.”
