UPDATE 2:36 p.m. (7/14/21): The Glasgow Volunteer Fire Department shared additional details about Saturday’s incident involving a golf cart that left at least six children injured in Rockbridge County.

According to the department, crews were dispatched to a vehicle crash involving pedestrians in the Recreation Lane area on Saturday, July 10. While responding, the call was updated to include multiple injuries, so air medical was put on standby due to the unknown nature of the injuries.

When units arrived on scene, they found multiple victims still on the ground with six confirmed injuries, but possibly more.

Fire officials say two patients needed to be airlifted to the hospital, while four others were transported by ground and two others refused care.

All units operating on the scene worked together seamlessly to achieve the same goal that processed a positive outcome. This was a tragic event for everyone involved, but also a reminder of how quickly things can happen and affect so many people. As rescuers we seldom hear from the victims we come in contact with, but we’ve heard from the parents of one of the patients that were flown that he is doing well but will take some time to recover. All of these patients were considered pediatric and this really hit home for those of us with little ones. So with that said, hug your children even on days when they’ve been beyond difficult and have turned your world upside down and tell them you love them. In this scary and uncertain world we live in they need to know your love is unconditional.

UPDATE 4:40 p.m.: Virginia State Police have confirmed to WFXR what happened on Saturday that injured six children at Jellystone Campground in Rockbridge County.

According to troopers, some children were playing around a bounce house at the campground. A short distance away, an employee with the campground was unloading some equipment from the golf cart when a speaker fell and hit the accelerator, which caused the golf cart to become mobile.

That’s when it struck six children.

VSP says that none of the injuries were life-threatening. The two children who were flown out were said to have sustained some broken bones.

No charges will be filed in the incident.
