Several southwest Virginia school districts announce Thursday delays, bus route cancellations following Wednesday’s flooding

(WFXR) — A passing cold front brought heavy rainfall and flooding to southwest and central Virginia on Wednesday. Now, students in several counties are dealing with school delays or bus route cancellations for Thursday.

Here is a list of the local school districts that have postponed operations or shut down bus routes for Thursday, Sept. 23:

Botetourt County:

According to Botetourt County Public Schools, buses 46, 48, and 65 have been canceled for Thursday. This impacts Breckinridge Elementary School, Buchanan Elementary School, Eagle Rock Elementary School, Central Academy Middle School, and James River High School.

School officials say families will need to provide alternate transportation on Thursday, but if this is not possible, your children will not be marked absent from school. You are then asked reach out to the teacher(s) about any missed work or assignments.

Lexington:

Because of the heavy rain and flooding continuing to impact the area, Lexington City Schools says operations will be delayed by two hours on Thursday.

Rockbridge County:

Due to flooding and debris on a number of roads around the county, Rockbridge County Public Schools plans to operate on a two-hour delay on Thursday.
