Several school bus routes canceled in Botetourt County Tuesday due to driver shortage, COVID-19 concerns

Roanoke Valley News

BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Botetourt County Public Schools canceled a number of bus routes for Tuesday amid a critical shortage of bus drivers and concerns about rising coronavirus cases in the community.

School officials say that the driver shortage and pandemic safety concerns may require changes to transportation routes — possibly on a daily basis — such as temporary route alterations; cancellations; or delayed pickups, arrivals, and/or drop-offs.

Any adjustments made to the school district’s routes will be posted online and sent to families at the impacted schools at 6 p.m. each day.

In order to avoid losing any instructional time, families are encouraged to provide transportation for your students if possible. However, if the route for your kid(s) is canceled and you are unable to get them to school, the school district says they will not be marked absent for that day and they will be able to access assignments through the Canvas learning platform.
