ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The Roanoke County TRIAD is holding an event on Saturday to help empower and protect seniors.

The Senior Safety Expo will take place on Saturday October 8 from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Roanoke Police Academy building. The event will feature keynote speakers and free on-site services.

Speakers include:

  • Shannon Abell from AARP
  • Ann McGee Green, Anderson, Desimone & Green PC
  • Sergeant Tony Ayers from the Roanoke County Police Department

TRIAD says discussion topics include changes to Medicare/Medicaid, importance of having a power of attorney and advanced medical directive, and scams/fraudulent activity.

Free on-site services:

  • No questions asked Prescription drug take-back
  • Shred truck provided by AARP
  • Free breakfast refreshments provided by Oakey’s
  • Lunch provided by the Roanoke County Sheriff’s Department

Doors open at 9:30 a.m. and tickets will be sold at the door for $5.
