SALEM, Va (WFXR) — Full steam ahead as students roll up their sleeves to participate in the 2nd Annual Blue Ridge Brawl!

High school robotic teams from across the Commonwealth and Tennessee are coming together to showcase their robotic skills for an off-season FIRST Robotics Competition co-hosted by Roanoke College and Salem High School’s Spartan Robotics team.

WFXR’s Hazelmarie Anderson spoke to the Spartan Robotics team about the excitement of the off-season competition and the importance of participating in robotic competitions.

FIRST Robotics Competition encourages students to learn problem-solving skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship while they dive into the world of STEM.

This event will challenge teams to work under strict rules, and limited time and resources to build industrial-sized robots. These robots will be coded to play a challenging field game with other teams. industrial-sized robots.

Blue Ridge Brawl will take place in the Cregger Center from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 8, 2022.
