Salem scouts raising money to send popcorn to troops overseas

Roanoke Valley News

SALEM, Va. (WFXR) — A pair of Salem brothers in the Boy Scouts decided not to sell popcorn for their troop this year. Instead, Gabe and Daymien Manus decided to make a bigger impact.

The boys’ mother says they’re the only special needs pack and troop in the region strictly raising money to send popcorn to the military.

“So that soldiers and their families can have a treat,” said Gabe.

“It’s nice,” Daymien said. “It’s good to know you’re helping out other people a little bit, even if it’s something a little as popcorn.”

The brothers set up outside their home on Stoutamire Drive, inviting anyone to help them with their fundraiser, which ends on Tuesday, Oct. 19.

You can either swing by the boys’ house to contribute or you can donate on their PayPal page.

As of this writing, the boys are both about $1,000 away from the goal of $2,500 worth of popcorn to send to the military. However, they hope to surpass that goal.
