UPDATE 12:10 p.m.: The Salem Fire and EMS Department provided additional details about Wednesday morning’s fire that caused significant damage to the MedExpress Urgent Care along West Main Street.
According to the department, crews responded to the commercial structure fire at approximately 6:20 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 1336 West Main Street. When units arrived at the scene, they found heavy smoke coming from the building.
Fire officials say that it took about 30 minutes for first responders to contain the flames.
The MedExpress building reportedly sustained serious fire, smoke, and water damage. Meanwhile, some other businesses from the Mill Lane Commons shopping area were affected by the smoke.
The Salem Fire Marshal’s Office is still investigating the blaze and has not determined an origin, cause, or damage estimate from the fire, the department says.
According to fire officials, approximately 34 personnel from the Salem Fire and EMS Department, Roanoke Fire-EMS, and the Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department responded to the call and helped extinguish the fire.
UPDATE 8:28 a.m.: Salem fire crews tell WFXR News that there are no reports of injuries following a fire at the MedExpress Urgent Care on West Main Street Wednesday morning.
However, the MedExpress, as well as neighboring businesses, will reportedly be closed because of heavy smoke damage.
The cause of this fire is still under investigation at this time.
SALEM, Va. (WFXR) — Members of Salem Fire-EMS are currently responding to a fire at MedExpress Urgent Care along West Main Street.
According to dispatchers, the call came in shortly before 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 10.
However, dispatchers not not confirm the extent of the fire or whether there are any injuries.
