Salem City Schools requires students, teachers and staff to wear a mask for upcoming school year

SALEM, Va. (WFXR) — Students who attend Salem City Schools will be required to wear a mask for the 2021-2022 school year.

School officials released their Return to Learn COVID-19 Mitigation Plan on Tuesday, Aug. 10. In the document, it states students, teachers, staff, and visitors will be required to wear masks based on the CDC guidelines while indoors. In order for students to use school transportation, students must wear masks.

The document goes on to say, when students arrive, they will undergo a first-period health screen. Inside each classroom, students will be assigned seating to help with contact tracing.

Students will not be required to wear a mask when on the school playgrounds and during outdoor extra-curricular activities or also during any sporting practices or games.

School officials also stated visitors and volunteers are allowed in the building, but visitors are not allowed in the cafeteria.

Classes for Salem City Schools begin on Monday, Aug. 30.
