ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Following the cancellation of this year’s Puppy Love Ball amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Roanoke Valley SPCA introduced a new fundraiser, this time in the form of an online auction and donation opportunity called “Sit.Stay.Give.”
The animal shelter says Sit.Stay.Give. will help provide life-saving medical care and safe sheltering to dogs and cats in need, as well as fund important intervention programs to help Roanoke Valley residents keep their pets during times of crisis.
“Sadly, due to COVID-19, Puppy Love Ball was once again cancelled this year,” said Denise Hayes, CEO of the Roanoke Valley SPCA. “Puppy Love Ball is the largest fundraising event hosted by the Roanoke Valley SPCA and generally nets $30,000 to $50,000 for our important work. This loss is devastating, and we needed to find a safe alternative to fundraise.”
The Sit.Stay.Give. online auction opened at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 23 and will close at 9 p.m. on Saturday, May 8.
The organization says the auction offers a wide variety of items for bidding, including pet products; jewelry; food; fashion; art; and unique experience opportunities, like a behind-the-scenes tour of the shelter — including areas not normally visited by the public — led by Hayes.
