Roanoke Police unveil new online reporting system

Roanoke Valley News

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — With the growing number of vacancies in law enforcement, Roanoke City Police has launched a new online reporting system.

The Roanoke Police Department says the new system can be used for non-violent misdemeanors.

The reporting system,, is meant to help Roanoke City residents start a paper trail on any offenses they see around their neighborhood.

The department hopes this system will help keep better track of crimes and trending crimes while taking the extra workload off their officers.

“My hope is that citizens will start using this for those non-violent offenses which then frees up officers on the street to be involved in community engagement to make sure we are addressing violent crime with our violent crime initiative and that’s what we really hope for.”

Sgt. William Drake, Roanoke City Police Department

Roanoke Police have been developing this service for over a year. So far, 60 crime reports have been made so far.
