ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Roanoke Police have released body cam footage from an officer-involved shooting back in June.
On June 25, Roanoke Police Department says officers saw two men they believe were involved in another shooting that happened on June 22.
Police say they attempted to get out to speak to the men and there was a quick pursuit. One of the young men fired shots at officers.
The shooter, Rasheed M. Moorman, 26, of Roanoke was struck by police gunfire and transported to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he died from his injures.
Earlier in November, the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Roanoke, Donald Caldwell, released a statement about the shooting and saying he believed Roanoke City Police “acted properly” during the shooting that resulted in Moorman’s death.
In addition, Caldwell said he believed “no criminal charges against the officers are appropriate in this instance.”
Police Chief Sam Roman also released a statement about the shooting, expressing his condolences to Moorman’s family. You can read that statement below:
