ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Police in Roanoke are actively investigating a crash involving an SUV that ended up colliding with one police vehicle on Friday evening. As a result of the crash, that police vehicle also collided with a second police vehicle that was occupied by an officer.

According to Roanoke Police, the crash occurred at around 7:20 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, in the 3300 block of Melrose Avenue NW.

At the scene, one of the police vehicles was empty as an officer previously occupying that vehicle was investigating another crash when an SUV that was traveling east on Melrose Avenue approached the scene and struck the parked, unoccupied marked police vehicle.

The force of the collision forced the parked vehicle to move forward and collide with another police vehicle that was occupied by one officer. Another officer was outside of the cruiser investigating an earlier crash when the second crash occurred.

Roanoke Fire-EMS responded and transported the male driver of the SUV, as well as two Roanoke police officers, to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for injuries from the crash.

Roanoke Police continue to investigate the crash.

Currently, no charges have been filed.
