ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The suspect in a scuffle with an officer and his K-9 this past Friday in downtown Roanoke has been identified and charged.
Police say 53-year-old James Edward Lee of Roanoke, faces several charges in the incident, which includes involvement in numerous property crimes. Those charges include:
- Two counts of misdemeanor petit larceny
- One count misdemeanor property damage
- One count misdemeanor obstruction of justice
- One count felony property damage
- One count felony assault on police K-9
- One count felony assault on law enforcement officer
Police also say that additional charges are pending.
According to the Roanoke Police Department, the incident took place on Friday, July 23. An officer and his K-9 were patrolling the downtown area when the officer located a man who was thought to be involved in several property crimes that occurred in Roanoke.
When the officer tried to speak with the man, now identified as Lee, he tried to run from the officer, which is when the officer deployed his K-9 partner, who was able to catch up with Lee.
During the scuffle, Lee reportedly brandished a “cutting instrument,” as well as several other weapons, according to police.
Roanoke Police are not commenting about the specific injuries the officer and the K-9 sustained in the scuffle.
