ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Roanoke Fire-EMS will be performing maintenance on more than 3,000 hydrants from now until October.

Annually, responders perform hydrant maintenance to assess water capabilities and needs in case of a fire. This is done each year to ensure our responders have what they need to fight a fire that could potentially save lives and/or property.

If you notice discoloration in your water, you can flush it out by turning on all of your cold water taps for 10-15 minutes, or until the water turns clear. Using cold water prevents sediment build-up in your water heater.

If you have any questions or concerns, contact the Western Virginia Water Authority at (540) 853-5700.
