Roanoke Fire-EMS, Carilion team up to help parents secure car seats safely

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Parents will have a chance on Thursday to make sure their car seats are safely secured. Roanoke Fire-EMS and Carilion Children’s Safe Kids are working together to conduct Child Safety Seat Checks.

Parents can drive up to Station 6 at 1333 Jamison Avenue SE to get their child seat secured in their cars. Starting on Thursday, July 15, Ronaoke Fire-EMS and Carilion will be available on the third Thursday of each month from 4 to 6 pm. on a first come, first serve basis.

If you need an appointment you are asked to contact Carilion Children’s Safe Kids at (540) 981-8075.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, car seats and boosters, when installed correctly, can reduce the risk of fatal injury in a crash by 71 percent for infants and by 54 percent for toddlers.

Roanoke Fire-EMS and Carilion hope these checks will help educate families about the proper use of car safety seats to keep children safe.
