UPDATE: 11:29 A.M. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Transportation has reported that the multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 81 in Roanoke County is cleared.



UPDATE: 11:09 A.M.(WFXR) — All southbound lanes are opened on Interstate 81 in Roanoke County and the detour has been lifted.

VDOT reports that drivers can still expect delays in the area and traffic is backed up over one mile.



UPDATE 10:40 A.M. (WFXR) — VDOT says traffic delays have increased to approximately five miles on Interstate 81 South, in Roanoke County, due to a multi-vehicle crash involving an overturned tanker.

All southbound lanes remain closed and a detour is still in place.



ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has reported that drivers can expect delays traveling along Interstate 81 South due to a tractor-trailer crash on April 1st.

VDOT says the crash occurred at mile marker 131.8 near the Riverside area. All south lanes are closed, at this time, and traffic is backed up for over two miles.

A detour is in place for drivers traveling on this route. Traffic is being diverted off of Exit 132 onto U.S. 460.

Drivers are encouraged to seek alternative routes of travel. WFXR News will update you with information as it is released.
