ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR)– Roanoke County scaled the healthiest communities ranking, climbing 60 points higher than last year in a nationwide report.

According to the 2022 Healthiest Communities rankings done by the U.S. News & World Report, Roanoke County placed 133rd among the healthiest communities in the nation for 2022. This ranking is a leap from its ranking from last year, as it was placed NO. 196 in 2021.

The study included 500 communities total nationwide, with Roanoke County receiving an overall score of 75 across all criteria. Roanoke County also ranked 24 points higher than other communities in Virginia, placing 14 points higher than the national average of high-performing, urban communities across the nation.

According to the study, which was made in collaboration with CVS Health, Roanoke County scored particularly well in the criteria of population, health, equity, education, economy, and infrastructure.
