Roanoke community members throwing virtual Earth Day celebration Thursday

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Thursday is Earth Day and Roanoke is celebrating virtually this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the Facebook event organized by Earth Day Roanoke, RIDE Solutions, and Big Lick Entertainment, this year’s theme is “Restore Our Earth.”

You can join in the virtual celebration from noon to 4 p.m. on Thursday, April 22 on Facebook.

In addition, organizers say they will feature fun and educational videos created by local non-profits, organizations, groups, and people who want to improve the quality of the Earth throughout the day.

You can also find out the winner of Roanoke Stormwater’s “Clean Streets Jingle Contest” by tuning in at noon on Thursday.
