ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Community members in Roanoke united on Saturday to “Stomp the Violence.”

The Youth Enrichment Services of Southwest Virginia aim to spread love throughout the Roanoke Valley to bring awareness about efforts to reduce gun violence.

Officers in Roanoke say there have been more than 60 shootings so far this year in Roanoke where at least one person was injured or killed.

One mother whose son was injured by gunfire spoke to WFXR News about the importance of these types of events.

“It’s important to come here because you get answers. Two, you’re not by yourself. That’s really what this is. It’s a group of people who came together.”
