SALEM, Va. (WFXR) — On Monday night, a Salem professor came out on top in the first round of the quarterfinals for the 2021 Professors Tournament on ‘Jeopardy!’

According to the ‘Jeopardy!’ website, Gary Hollis, a chemistry professor at Roanoke College, won $20,000 during the matchup — which aired Monday, Dec. 6 — as well as a spot in the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Hester Blum, an English professor at Penn State in Pennsylvania, came in second place with $12,000 while Gautam Hans, an associate clinical professor of law at Vanderbilt Law School in Tennessee, ended up in third place with $1.

The tournament quarterfinals will continue from Tuesday, Dec. 7 through Friday, Dec. 10, with each night featuring a matchup between three professors from across the country.
