ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Roanoke City law enforcement officers are preparing for their annual Torch Run, an event benefitting Special Olympics Virginia.

Starting at 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, June 7, participants will run and ride bikes alongside deputies throughout the city. Law enforcement officers will be carrying a lit torch during the run. The eight-mile route will start at Roanoke Salem Plaza and end at Famous Anthony’s.

In May, the sheriff’s office committed to raising money for Special Olympics Virginia by hosting multiple fundraising events. on events raising money for the foundation. Throughout the month, the community had a chance to ‘Dunk a Deputy’ in a carnival-style dunk tank, and cover a squad car with donation cards.
