ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Roanoke Fire-EMS says a fire at an apartment building in the southwestern part of the city has caused $130,000 worth of damage to the building and its contents.

On Thursday, June 30 at approximately 3:38 p.m., crews arrived on the scene of a fire at an apartment building in the 500 block of 6th Street SW. Firefighters say they found flames and smoke coming from the roof.

A ladder truck was then used to extinguish the flames and the fire was contained to the exterior roof and HVAC units.

The Roanoke Fire Marshal’s Office determined the cause of the fire was accidental.

In addition to the smoke damage, officials say there was also water damage to several apartments below the fire, as well as the first-floor foyer.
