ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – The American Red Cross will hold a community blood drive in southwest Roanoke this week in an effort to help replenish the local blood supply.
Total Action for Progress (TAP) says the local Red Cross’ blood supply is at a “dangerously low level.”
So low that as of this week, there is only a one-day supply for our area which could impact transfusions and critical surgery needs.
In an effort to help stabilize the supply, the American Red Cross will host the blood drive on Wednesday, Dec. 22 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the American Red Cross Auditorium at 352 Church Avenue SW in Roanoke.
Residents interested in donating may sign up by clicking here. Just search by using sponsor code “RoanokeVa” to be taken directly to the blood drive page to schedule an appointment.
Organizers say that appointments are preferred over walk-ins.
To meet their goal of 20 units, they need around 25 donors to sign up.
