UPDATE: Garden City Blvd SE reopened, three people displaced after house fire

UPDATE 7:40 p.m.: Roanoke Fire-EMS says Garden City Boulevard SE has been reopened following Friday evening’s structure fire.

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Roanoke Fire-EMS have closed down a portion of Garden City Boulevard SE due to a house fire.

At 5:30 p.m. on Friday, April 30, the department says crews were dispatched to the 2700 block of Garden City Boulevard SE for a fire.

Arriving units found smoke coming from all sides of a residential structure. The fire was brought under control within 25 minutes.

According to Roanoke Fire-EMS, the fire was difficult to extinguish due to hoarding conditions. Several small pets passed in the fire, but no injuries were reported.

Two adults and one child are displaced, but he American Red Cross Virginia Region has been called to assist to assist them.

The area of the 2700 block of Garden City Boulevard SE is shut down until further notice. Officials are asking the public to avoid the area.
