ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A man has been arrested in connection with a shooting that took place early Saturday morning in northwest Roanoke.

At approximately 2:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, the Roanoke Police Department says word came in about a person with a gunshot wound in the 800 block of Queen Avenue NW.

Upon arrival, officers say they found a man inside a home with what appeared to be a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The man was transported by Roanoke Fire-EMS to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police tell WFXR News they had previously responded to that address at approximately 1:50 a.m. on Saturday for a reported disorder, which involved people who knew each other. Some of those people left the scene after speaking with officers.

According to officials, after further investigation, 20-year-old Quintiy L. Steelman of Roanoke was identified as the suspect in the shooting. He arrived at the Roanoke Police Department shortly after 5 a.m. to be interviewed by officers.

Police say Steelman was taken into custody and is facing charges of malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Steelman was granted a bond by the Roanoke Magistrate’s Office and released from the Roanoke City Jail without hours of his arrest, authorities say.

The department says Steelman and the man who was shot know each other, adding that this appears to be an isolated incident related to the disorder reported less than an hour before the shooting.

As of this writing, police are still investigating this incident.

Note: Quintiy L. Steelman’s name was misspelled in earlier versions of this story. This has since been corrected.
