UPDATE 9:42 a.m. (1/12/22): On Wednesday, authorities shared the identity of the homicide victim who was found outside of a home in southeast Roanoke early Monday morning.

According to the Roanoke Police Department, officers were responding to a suspicious call with injuries in the 3500 block of Yellow Mountain Road SE at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 10.

The department says 23-year-old Brooks M. Mullen of Roanoke, was found lying outside of a residence, unresponsive and apparently injured, before first responders pronounced her dead at the scene.

As of this writing, police say they are still investigating Mullen’s death.


ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — A homicide investigation is underway after a woman was found dead outside of a southeast Roanoke home early Monday morning, according to police.

The Roanoke Police Department says the E-911 Center notified officers about a suspicious call with injuries in the 3500 block of Yellow Mountain Road SE at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 10.

When police arrived at the scene, they found an unresponsive woman — who appeared to be injured — lying outside of a residence. Roanoke Fire-EMS then pronounced the woman dead at the scene, according to officials.

The department says the woman’s identity will be released after next-of-kin is notified.

Authorities say they did not find any suspects at the scene and have not made any arrests in connection with this ongoing homicide investigation.
