Police investigate verbal altercation that reportedly led to shooting Monday afternoon in Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Roanoke Police are investigating a shooting that took place Monday afternoon on Orange Avenue NE.

According to police, they were notified of the shooting around 3:15 p.m. Monday where a person received a gunshot wound in the 500 block of Orange Avenue NE.

Dispatchers advised officers that the victim was outside of a business in the area.

Arriving officers found an adult male with what appeared to be serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

He was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for treatment.

Police say that they were able to identify a person of interest in the incident.

They say that it appears that the victim and the suspect, who has not yet been identified, got into a verbal altercation that escalated.

Roanoke Police say the two individuals knew each other.

No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
