UPDATE 11:45 a.m. (9/7/21): On Tuesday morning, police shared the identity of the man who died in northwest Roanoke following a Saturday night shooting.
The Roanoke Police Department says the victim — identified as 29-year-old Hakeem K. Logan of Roanoke — was found with a gunshot wound in the 300 block of Harrison Avenue NW around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4. First responders pronounced him dead at the scene.
According to the department, the investigation into this homicide — which was the first of two homicides to take place in the Star City this weekend — is still ongoing as of Tuesday, Sept. 7.
ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Police are investigating a fatal man shooting after a man was found dead in northwest Roanoke late Saturday night.
According to the Roanoke Police Department, they were notified around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 4 about a person with a gunshot wound in the 300 block of Harrison Avenue NW.
When officers responded, they found an unresponsive man with what appeared to be critical injuries.
Rescue crews tried to treat the man, but they were not successful and he was pronounced dead at the scene, the department says.
Police say that next of kin will be contacted. Until then, they will not release the identity of the man killed.
According to authorities, no suspects were found on the scene and no arrests have been made.
The department says the investigation into this homicide is still ongoing.
