Police investigate dead body found in northwest Roanoke

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) – Police are investigating following the discovery of a dead body in northwest Roanoke Monday afternoon.

At approximately 4:40 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 9, the Roanoke Police Department says word came in about a dead person in the 800 block of 8th Street NW.

When officers responded to the scene, they found a woman in a home who was pronounced dead by Roanoke Fire-EMS.

Police say that due to the victim’s injuries, they are investigating the incident as a homicide.

Detectives and officers are working to determine how the woman — identified as 60-year-old Joann Jones of Roanoke — died.
