UPDATE 11:09 a.m. (8/17/22): The Roanoke Police Department shared new details with WFXR News about Tuesday night’s police chase that left a man facing multiple charges.

According to the department, a Roanoke officer was on patrol in the area around 13th Street SW and Campbell Avenue SW when he noticed a vehicle run a stop sign at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 16.

Authorities say the officer tried to pull the vehicle over, but rather than comply with the traffic stop, the motorist kept driving, causing the officer to begin a pursuit.

Officials tell WFXR News that the chase — which did not reach high speeds — continued through downtown Roanoke and ended on Orange Avenue NW, just west of Gainsboro Road.

Police say that the driver — identified as 44-year-old Stephen L. Miller of Roanoke — was taken into custody without incident and charged with felony eluding and failure to stop at a stop sign.

ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — Members of the Roanoke Police Department took one person into custody after what officers called a short pursuit Tuesday night.

Police say the chase began on Campbell Avenue SW and ended on Orange Avenue, where multiple police cruisers were parked near the intersection with Gainsboro Road NW.

Multiple people were in the suspect vehicle, but there were no reports of injuries.
