ROANOKE, Va. (WFXR) — The newly-named Petco Love issued a $500,000 grant investment to Angels of Assisi to support their lifesaving work for animals in Roanoke and the surrounding communities.
According to Angels of Assisi, Petco Love is a nonprofit leading nationwide change for pets by bringing communities and pet families closer, both stronger and healthier.
Since it was founded in 1999 as the Petco Foundation, the organization has reportedly invested nearly $300 million to date in adoption and other lifesaving efforts, as well as helped find loving homes for more than 6.5 million pets in partnership with Petco and more than 4,000 organizations like Angels of Assisi.
“Today Petco Love announces an investment in Angels of Assisi and hundreds of other organizations as part of our commitment to create a future in which no pet is unnecessary euthanized,” said Susanne Kogut, President of Petco Love. “Our local investments are only one component. This month, we will also launch the first of our national tools to empower all animal lovers to drive lifesaving change right alongside us.”
Meanwhile, since 2001, Angels of Assisi says it has performed 141,453 spay/neuter surgeries and 196,527 wellness/sick exams; formed 19 transport partners; and found forever homes for more than 25,000 animals.
“With the support of Petco Love, Angels of Assisi will be able to continue and expand our lifesaving work through our new Community Pet Hospital and Adoption Center,” said Lisa O’Neill, Executive Director of Angels of Assisi. “The new facility will enable our team to improve the lives of pets in need as well as the lives of people who love their pets.”
