VINTON, Va. (WFXR) — More than 10 days after a shooting took place at a Vinton McDonald’s — which later resulted in a man’s death — police say a person has been arrested in connection with the homicide.
According to the Vinton Police Department, officers responded to a report of a malicious wounding at approximately 9:39 p.m. on Oct. 11 at 809 Hardy Road.
When authorities arrived at the scene, they say they found a man inside the McDonald’s with an apparent gunshot wound. That man was then brought to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
The department says the investigation indicates the shooting took place in the McDonald’s parking lot, but the suspected vehicle — a silver sedan — drove away before officers arrived at the scene.
On Oct. 13, police announced that the shooting victim — identified as 38-year-old Gary McMiller of Vinton — died from his injury.
Then, on Thursday, Oct. 21, authorities say a person was taken into custody by the Roanoke Police Department in connection with the Vinton homicide.
According to police, that person — whose identity was not released — has been charged with murder in the commission of a robbery, attempted robbery, and use of a firearm in the commission of a robbery.
However, the Vinton Police Department is still trying to determine the identities of two other suspects in this homicide investigation. If you have any information, you are asked to call 540-283-7034.
